The Saturday Night Shindig was an American country music show which of WFAA in Dallas , Texas , was sent.
history
The first show of Saturday Night Shindig was broadcast in 1944 from Possum Flats in the "Old General Store" in Dallas. Other editions of the show were first broadcast from the WFAA studio, and later moved to the larger State Fair auditorium. The show's house band were Dude Ranch Buckeroos , a group that played at local events around Dallas. Jeannie McDonald, who previously appeared in the WLS National Barn Dance , acted as caller for the subsequent square dance and was also on stage with the comedians "Little Willie" (Ben McCleskey) and Pop Myres. The show was hosted by John Allen. Members of the show included Ralph Sanford, Orville Couch , The Shelton Brothers and Arlie Duff . Lew Williams and the then unknown Sonny James began performing on Saturday Night Shindig in the early 1950s.
In 1948 the sister broadcaster WFAAs, KRLD, began to broadcast the Big D Jamboree that the WFAA Saturday Night Shindig soon overtook popularity and took over their artists. Due to competition from the Big D Jamboree, Saturday Night Shindig was later discontinued.
