When 400 series indicating Wiener Lokalbahnen (WLB) their latest railcar generation. The 14 low-floor articulated multiple units were built between 2000 and 2010 by a consortium of the manufacturers Bombardier , Adtranz , ELIN and Siemens for use on the Vienna – Baden local railway .
General
In 2000, six new railcars had to be procured in order to guarantee the 7.5-minute intervals between the Vienna Opera and Wiener Neudorf . These are characterized by a low entry height, lifts for wheelchair users and, in some cases, air conditioning. Its basic concept is based on the type T vehicles that have been in use on Vienna's subway line 6 since 1993 . The 400 series railcars usually run in double traction with the high-floor predecessor vehicles in the 100 series .
