The 100 series of Wiener Lokalbahnen (WLB) forms the backbone of the Badner Bahn fleet . The three-part, high-floor articulated multiple units were built by Simmering-Graz-Pauker between 1979 and 1993 and are based on the Mannheim type from Duewag . They are usually in double traction with the newer low-floor cars of series 400 to be found, but they drive between Vienna and Wiener Neudorf individually around the 7.5-minute intervals to allow here. Of the original 26 cars, 24 are still in operation; numbers 104 and 107 were retired in 2010 as spare parts donors.

As a replacement for the 100 series, 18 to 34 new 500 series multiple units are planned to go into operation from 2021.

The cars ordered in 1976 run on four bogies, the outer ones are motorized bogies and are equipped with Duewag tandem drives . The Jakobs bogies under the joints are running bogies . The wheel sets are internally stored. In addition to the dynamic brake acting on the motor bogies, there is a brake disc on each of the wheelset shafts, and the disc brake also serves as a holding brake. As a friction-independent brake, magnetic rail brakes are available in all bogies. There is a single-arm pantograph at each end of the wagon; as is typical for trams, the front one is usually installed. With just three doors on each side of the car (one single folding door behind the driver's cab and one double folding door in the middle of the car) and padded seats with tables, the cars are adapted to the longer travel times compared to tram operation. The train destination displays were originally equipped with target films , whereby the display on the trains running the entire route only remained set to “Vienna Opera - Baden and back”. Around 2006/07 they were replaced by matrix displays.

After the 400 series was delivered, the 100 series multiple controls were adapted accordingly. During the transition period, the converted wagons were marked with the number “4” in front of the wagon number.
