WTFPL

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The wtfpl (Thu W has T he F uck You Want To P ublic L icense) is a public-domain -like software license . As the name of the license (in German: Do-what-you-want-license ) already makes clear, its goal is not to impose any conditions on the use of the software on which it is based (public domain). Banlu Kemiyatorn published the first version 1.0 in March 2000 and used it as a license for specially created graphics in the Window Maker project. Sam Hocevar, a French programmer and former head of the Debian project (April 17, 2007 to April 16, 2008) wrote version 2.0, the contents of which are a copyright notice and the only condition you do what you damn well want to do . Version 2 is recognized by the Free Software Foundation as a GPL-compatible license for free software , but not recommended. The comparable licenses MIT or Apache 2.0 , or the use of a copyleft license are preferable. In order to release a work as a public domain without restrictions, the CC0 is recommended, as it was specially written for compatibility with the various international legal systems (in contrast to the WTFPL, whose legal validity is unclear in the event of a lawsuit).
