The WWK Insurance Group is a German insurance group made up of WWK Lebensversicherung aG , WWK Allgemeine Versicherung AG , WWK Pensionsfonds AG and WWK Investment SA , which was founded in 2001 . WWK's core business is provision, protection and investment.

history

The WWK was founded in 1884 by members of the "Bavarian Traffic Officials Association" (BVBV) as the "Widows and Orphans Support Fund of the Bavarian Traffic Officials Association" (WWUK). The idea: If one of the members died, his widow and children would receive financial support from the association. The initial capital was 670.20 marks and was raised through donations from BVBV members.

The year 1901 brought a significant change for the private insurance industry, which the WWUK could not avoid. With immediate effect, “associations of persons who want to insure their members according to the principle of reciprocity” only received approval if they were set up in the form of a mutual insurance association . Thus, the WWUK became a mutual insurance association (VVaG), the main characteristic of which is still today that the insured are also members of the association.

The legal form became an integral part of the name in 1920: The WWUK changed its name to "Widow's and Orphan's Fund of the Reich and State Service Personnel, General Life Insurance Institution for Mutuality in Munich". The following years were characterized by growth. More and more insurance associations and death benefit funds joined the WWK, such as the life insurance association of locomotive drivers in southern Germany. In 1934, the WWK expanded its membership to include employees in the private sector and created its own field service organization. In 1961 the “ Widows and Orphans' Fund General Property and Accident Insurance Aktiengesellschaft” was founded. Associated with this was the start of the motor, accident and property insurance business. In 1971 both companies finally changed their name to “WWK Lebensversicherung a. G. "and" WWK Allgemeine Versicherung AG ".

Sponsorship

WWK is the main sponsor of FC Augsburg from the 2015/16 season . The contract is initially valid for three years. In addition, WWK secured the naming rights to the stadium of FC Augsburg, which is now called WWK Arena . The contract is valid for ten years from the 2015/16 season, ie until June 30, 2025. The WWK also has an option for a further five years as a namesake.

WWK has been the main sponsor of DJK Rimpar Wölfe , 2nd handball league , since the 2013/14 season .

The WWK also acts as a sponsor for the first division club TSV Herrsching (volleyball).
