The Wada ( Japanese 和 田氏 ) were an old family of the Japanese sword nobility ( Buke ) from the province of Izumi . The Wada derived from the Kusonoki .

genealogy

  • Masauji (正 氏) was the younger brother of Kusunoki Masashige (楠 正 成; 1294-1336). He fought with him for the south court, fell in the battle of Minatogawa .
  • Sukehide or Kenshin (賢 秀), son of Masauji, accompanied Kusonoki Masatsura (楠 正 行; 1326–1348), his cousin.
  • Masatomo (正朝), a brother of Sukehide, distinguished himself in the battles against Kō Moronao (高 師 直, d. 1351) and Moroyasu (高 師 泰, d. 1351).
  • Masatake (正 武) supported Emperor Go-Murakami and fought against Shogun Ashikaga Yoshiakira and Sasaki Hideaki, whom he defeated and killed. When Kusunoki Masanori (楠 正義; died 1390) joined the Northern Dynasty in 1369, he fought against him in allegiance to the Southern Dynasty.
  • Masatada (正忠), together with Kusunoki Masanori and Hosokawa Akiuji, ruled Kyōto and reinstated Go-Murakami. But a short time afterwards Ashikaga Yoshiakira returned with a large troop that he had dug up in the province of undmi, and placed him at Otokoyama (男 山), 20 km south of Kyoto. Masatada was killed in the battle, he is only 17 years old.
