Lambourn and the surrounding area have long been a traditional center of horse racing , a compound that dates back to the 18th century when the Earl of Craven was racing around the nearby Ashdown House . Since then, several stables have settled in Lambourn, as ideal training conditions are to be found in the area. Horse racing, with over 1500 horses in the local stables, is also the economic basis for Lambourn today.
