Wadi el-Joz
Wadi el-Joz ( Arabic وادي الجوز Wadi al-Jschauz , DMG Wādī al-Ǧauz 'Valley of Walnuts', also Wadi Joz ) is an Arab district in East Jerusalem . It is located at the head of the Kidron Valley , north of the old town and east of Sheikh Jarrah . Wadi Joz has about 13,000 inhabitants and is 750 m above sea level.
The neighborhood emerged outside of Herod's Gate in the late 19th century when wealthy Arab families built their summer homes there. An oil warehouse and distribution center was established there in the early 1900s. In 1939 the main mosque of the district, the Abdin Mosque , was built. The Hejazi Mosque was added later.
In 2007 a neighborhood association was founded to promote local services and infrastructure.
