Wagon Box Fight
The Wagenburg battle took place during the Red Cloud War . On August 2, 1867, northwest of Fort Phil Kearny , Wyoming , under the leadership of James W. Powell, 26 American soldiers and 6 civilians had to defend themselves in a wagon castle against several hundred Lakota warriors. The Fetterman battle had occurred shortly before . Today a monument commemorates the dispute.
