Election of a constitutional commission in the Seychelles in 1992
The 1992 election of a constitutional commission in the Seychelles was carried out from July 23 to 26, 1992 in the Seychelles . The task of the commission so appointed should be the drafting of a new, democratic constitution for the Seychelles. A new constitution was the prerequisite for the country's transition from a one-party state under the leadership of the socialist Seychelles People's Progressive Front in 1977. The constitutional commission was elected by proportional representation, which required at least 5% of the vote to win one of the 22 seats.
The former state party Seychelles People's Progressive Front won 14 seats, the remaining 8 seats went to the Seychelles Democratic Party . The turnout was 85.3%. The other six participating parties came out empty-handed.
