The election for the National Assembly in Nepal 2018 took place on February 7, 2018. This was the first election of the newly created upper house, the Rastriya Sabha , of the Nepalese parliament according to the new constitution of 2015 .

Election result

In this first election to the National Assembly, all 56 MPs were elected. On February 12, the then Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba nominated three further members for appointment to the National Assembly by the President of Nepal.

Originally, 2,056 voters were eligible to vote in seven different electoral colleges, each representing one of the seven provinces. However, all eight seats of the National Assembly of Province No. 2 were elected without objection, so the 379 members of the Electoral College of Province No. 2 did not participate in these elections.

The electoral colleges consisted of a total of 1,506 members of the municipal councils (mayor, deputy mayor, chairperson and deputy chairperson) and 550 members of the respective provincial assembly. Their votes were weighted differently, with each community representative having a value of 18 and the provincial representative having a value of 48.
