The Nepalese Congress Party (nepali: नेपाली काँग्रेस ; English: Nepali Congress Party - NCP) was founded on January 25, 1947 in Calcutta as the Nepali National Congress . It united on April 9, 1950 with the Nepali Democratic Congress, also founded in Calcutta, and called for the overthrow of the Rana regime.
The party hired several prime ministers in the country, including the first ( Bishweshwar Prasad Koirala ) and Girija Prasad Koirala .
The party is social democratic and belongs to the Socialist International .
On July 21, 2008, the General Secretary of the NCP, Ram Baran Yadav , was elected the first President of the Republic of Nepal.
