Bishweshwar Prasad Koirala
Bishweshwar Prasad Koirala (born September 8, 1914 in Benares , India , † July 21, 1982 in Kathmandu ) was a Nepalese politician and brother of the Nepalese Prime Ministers Matrika Prasad Koirala and Girija Prasad Koirala .
Koirala began his political career as a member of the Indian Congress Party . After India's independence, he founded the Congress Party in Nepal and led it to victory in the first democratic parliamentary elections in 1959, whereupon he took over the office of Prime Minister. His attempt to establish a constitutional monarchy in Nepal failed as early as 1960 when King Mahendra Koirala deposed as Prime Minister. Later temporarily detained, he was only rehabilitated shortly before his death in 1982.
His granddaughter is the actress Manisha Koirala .
