Subarna Shamsher Rana

Subarna Shamsher Jang Bahadur Rana ( Nepali सुवर्ण सम्शेर राणा ; * 1910 in Kathmandu ; † November 9, 1977 ) was a Nepalese politician of the Congress Party who was Prime Minister of Nepal from 1958 to 1959 .

Life

Rana came from an established, influential family of politicians and was a grandson of Bhim Shamsher Jang Bahadur Rana , who was also Prime Minister between 1929 and 1932. His other ancestors included his great-uncle Bir Shamsher Jang Bahadur Rana , who was Prime Minister between 1885 and 1901, Deva Shamsher Jang Bahadur Rana , who was Prime Minister for a short time in 1901, Chandra Shamsher Jang Bahadur Rana , who was Prime Minister from 1901 to 1929, Juddha Shamsher Jang Bahadur Rana , who served as Prime Minister between 1932 and 1945, his uncles Padma Shamsher Jang Bahadur Rana , who served as Prime Minister between 1945 and 1948, and Mohan Shamsher Jang Bahadur Rana , who was also Prime Minister from 1948 to 1951 . His nephews Madhukar Shamsher Jang Bahadur and Pashupati Shamsher Jang Bahadur were also politically active and held various ministerial offices.

Subarna Shamsher Rana himself took over his first ministerial office as Minister of Finance in the government of Prime Minister Matrika Prasad Koirala in 1951 and was a member of this until the abolition of the office of Prime Minister on August 14, 1952. He served as President of the Congress Party between 1956 and 1957 . On May 15, 1958, he succeeded Kunwar Indrajit Singh himself as Prime Minister of Nepal , which he held until he was replaced by his party friend Bishweshwar Prasad Koirala on May 27, 1959. At the same time, he held his cabinet and his cabinet Successor Koirala from May 15, 1958 to December 26, 1960 also as Minister of Finance and Minister of Planning. He was also Deputy Prime Minister in the Koirala cabinet between 1959 and 1960.
