Georges Heuyer
Georges Heuyer (born January 30, 1884 in Pacy-sur-Eure , † October 23, 1977 in Paris ) was a French doctor. He is considered to be the founder of child psychiatry in France.
Life
Georges Heuyer received his doctorate in 1914 under Ernest Dupré . In 1937 he was one of the organizers of the first international congress on child psychiatry in Paris. Before that he had spent two years in the sanatorium of Sancellemoz . In 1944 he married Suzanne Le Garrec for the third time. The following year two of his sons died, one of tuberculosisand one as a result of an accident. In 1948, Heuyer became a professor of child psychiatry. This professorship was set up especially for Heuyer and was the first chair for child psychiatry in Europe and the second worldwide. In 1949 he was responsible for the organization of the first World Congress on Psychiatry and took over the chairmanship of the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Section. He retired in the 1950s.
Heuyer was a member or chairman of numerous scientific associations. Among other things, he was Professor hc of the Medical Faculty of the University of Santiago de Chile , Honorary President of the Society for Child Neuropsychiatry of Venezuela and Honorary Member of the Pediatric Society of Uruguay , also Honorary President of the Association of European Child Psychiatrists. He published numerous writings. A clinic has been named after him since 1973.
In Mano. The boy who didn't know where he was , a book by Anja Tuckermann for young people , scared Dr. Heuyer almost killed the Sinto boy Mano Höllenreiner with his attempts at therapy.
