history

Wahrstorf, like its two neighboring villages Pölchow and Huckstorf, was probably founded as a farming village in the 13th century. Wardestorppe was first mentioned in 1337 . The original village form was that of an anger village .

On July 1, 1950, Wahrstorf was incorporated into Pölchow.

Gut Wahrstorf

The formation of the Wahrstorf estate began at the end of the 18th century. The construction of the manor house, which still exists today, also fell during this period. It was rebuilt and converted several times over the course of two centuries. Owners of the estate were the families Bernhard Julius Christoph Stein and Erben (1781–1795) and Major Joachim Franz Detloff von Bilow and Erben (1796–1832), who also owned the Brookhusen estate until the estate was separated in 1802 . From 1836 to 1882 the estate was owned by Meyer. Under Peter Meyer, a day laborer's cottage on the right-hand side of the access road was built in 1843, which was used as a replacement school for a short time after the fire at the Pölchow School. In 1847 another cottage was built on the left side of the road. In 1869, the brick factory on the estate was put into operation under Peter Adolf Heinrich Georg Meyer.

In 1882, the estate with 350 hectares of arable land and 50 hectares of meadows, brickworks, cattle husbandry and steam engines were owned by the Grand Ducal building inspector Friedrich Saniter. The focus of the estate economy was the sugar beet cultivation. The beets were shipped over the Warnow to the sugar factory in Rostock. A two kilometer long, fixed field railway was used for the transport, which was also used for the operation of the brickworks near the Warnow. The horse-drawn carts mainly transported agricultural goods, fertilizer, fuel and building materials from or to the fields, as well as ice for the ice cellar.

In 1909 the farm was sold by the heirs of Saniter to Johannes Lüttmann, who kept the farm until the foreclosure sale in 1929. In the past two decades, a small but high-quality dairy that was modern at the time was built. A bakery was also set up and leased.

In 1932 the diplomat Ernst Ludwig Voss bought the estate. Under his leadership, the estate economy began to recover. The estate developed into a recognized seed company. A commercial nursery was set up for this purpose. The milk production with registered breeding cattle and the processing in the dairy represented an important part of the business enterprise. Voss tried to improve the partly very poor living conditions of the farm workers employed on the estate by structural changes. In the time of National Socialism , Voss was forced by law to lease the land. He did not succeed in clearing up the confused administrative situation in the course of the war.

Since March 1945 the manor house was occupied by East Prussian refugees. On May 1, 1945, Soviet soldiers moved into Wahrstorf. On June 21, the Soviet commander took over the estate under self-management.

In the course of the land reform , the property was expropriated without compensation in December 1945.

At the beginning of the 21st century the manor house was partially renovated.

The building now houses apartments, a kindergarten in the side wing, the offices of the mayor and the municipal council, the premises of the village association with pottery and library, and a ballroom with winter garden. The historic manor park with protected trees is well worth seeing. The manor house and manor park are increasingly developing into the community center of the Pölchow community.
