Waldenøya belongs to the small island group Sjuøyane northeast of Nordaustland , Spitzbergen . The name was given by Adolf Erik Nordenskiöld , who named the eight islands of the archipelago after participants in the expedition (John Walden, ensign in the Phipps expedition in 1773).
