The St. Johann and Paul Forest Chapel is a chapel in the St. Bartholomä part of the community of Schönau am Königssee .

The chapel and its fittings are under monument protection and are registered in the Bavarian list of monuments under the number D-1-72-132-60 .

Building description

The St. Johann and Paul Forest Chapel is a slender building with a high hipped roof , clapboard roofing and a belfry . The building was built between 1617 and 1620 in a post-Gothic style.

history

There are underground early modern findings in the area of ​​the forest chapel. The four springs below the chapel, which are also popularly called fever wells and are considered medicinal water , probably gave rise to the construction of the first church in St. Bartholomä , which was consecrated in 1134.

In the founding year 1733 of the church and castle of St. Bartholomä in its current form, the road and footpath to the chapel were laid out.

The forest chapel is located about one kilometer above the peninsula of St. Bartholomä am Eisgraben at an altitude of 650  m above sea level. NN . The forest chapel is on the way to the ice chapel on the Watzmann.
