Waldstadt (Mölln)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Waldstadt , also called Steinfeld, is a residential area in Mölln . It is not an official city district or district, but the name has become established for the area south and outside of the core city, which is located within a forest area.

Emergence

In 1934 the Heeres-Munitionsanstalt Mölln was built on what is now the Waldstadt site and put into operation one year later. The munitions plant ( Muna ) included 172 ammunition bunkers and 95 other buildings in which over 7,000 tons of powder and explosives could be stored. The plant survived the Second World War unscathed and was to be dismantled after 1945 as part of a military infrastructure in accordance with Allied agreements.

Thanks to Michelsen, the mayor of Mölln at the time, the British occupying power could be persuaded to open the building for peaceful use. In 1947 the Muna was handed over to the German authorities for further civilian use. Under the direction of Industrie- und Wohngelände GmbH , the former military complex was transformed into a residential area in 1949. This was almost exclusively inhabited by expellees from the east. Between 1949 and 1952, 23 apartment blocks with a total of 270 apartments were built as part of the Marshall Plan . Further settlements were built through independent work of the residents. From 1952 the old barracks were gradually demolished. The history of the old camp ended with the demolition of the last barracks in Wolliner Weg in 1965.

traffic

There is a bus connection to the city center. The city center can be reached by car via a well-developed road network through the Wasserkrüger Weg.

Until 1959 a train, the so-called Hein Hollenbek , stopped at the Schneiderschere stop , which was in what is now the Waldstadt area. There were also extensive track systems for the supply of goods to the Muna. One of the tracks ran in the form of a large loop from today's "Waldstadt-Center" along today's Posener Strasse and back again through today's Hirschberger Strasse.

care

There is a small shopping center on Kolberger Strasse, the so-called "Waldstadt-Center" with an EDEKA supermarket, a post office and a bakery.

school

The Waldstadt has its own primary school, the "Tanneck Primary School". In 1965 the city of Mölln took over the entire complex of a former sanatorium on the outskirts of the Mölln forest town. In June 1971 the tenders for the construction of a new primary school with 12 classrooms, a gym, a common room, ancillary rooms and a caretaker's house followed. The school has its own anthem. I'll show you my school ... the Tanneck School is well known, is hidden ...
