Valerian Mikhailovich Vasilyev ( Russian Валериан Михайлович Васильев ; born January 1 . Jul / 13. January  1883 greg. , † 3. May 1961 ; Scientific transliteration. Valerian Michajlovič Vasil'ev ) was a Soviet linguist and folklorist. He did research in the field of Finno-Ugric Studies . The Volga-Finnish people of the Mari (historically: Tscheremissen) formed a focus of his work .
