Life

The origin of the Dschumblat family is the Kurdish - Druze family Canbulâdoğlu , which goes back to the governor of Aleppo al-Kirdi Janboulad Ibn Kassem Al Kaisari (1530-1580).

Walid Jumblatt is the son of Kamal Jumblatt and is the leader of the Socialist Progressive Party of Lebanon (PSP, full member of the Socialist International ) and the most influential leader of the Druze in Lebanon, which until 1990 included an at least 6,000-strong militia and the Lebanese civil war together fought with the PLO, communists and Nasserists against the Syrian-allied Amal militia and Christian right-wing militias.

Walid Jumblat is an avid opponent of Syrian influence on Lebanon, but was in alliance with Syria from 1988 to 1991 against the military government of the Maronite Michel Aoun and at that time even favored an annexation of Lebanon to Syria.

Jumblat was considered a close friend of the murdered Sunnis Rafiq Hariri and a bitter enemy of Israel . He repeatedly called on the Israeli Druze not to fight for the Israeli army .
