Walking Madonna
Walking Madonna is a sculpture in Salisbury in England .
It is to the northwest of Salisbury Cathedral .
It was created in 1981 by the British sculptor Elisabeth Frink . The life-size, ground-level bronze sculpture shows a simply dressed female figure portraying Mary , walking away from the cathedral towards the city . Her simple demeanor reminds her of a nun and she seems calm and deep in thought, her gaze conveys consolation. With its ground level installation, it acts as part of the community and its visitors.
Originally, only a temporary installation of the figure was planned, which ultimately resulted in a permanent installation.
