The Wallace Zwergohreule ( Otus silvicola ) is an owl from the genus of scops owl . It occurs on two of the Lesser Sunda Islands .

description

The size is 23 to 27 centimeters, the weight of a single copy was 212 grams. The top is light gray-brown with some darker scribbles and a black herringbone pattern. There are dark brown and yellowish bands on the wings. The underside is whitish to pale yellow with sparse, strong, bone-like markings and wavy dark transverse bands. The face is quite light with whitish eyebrows, dull orange-yellow eyes, a grayish horn-colored beak and rather long feather ears. The legs are densely feathered, the claws horn-colored.

Way of life

It inhabits tropical forests, including secondary forests and bamboo thickets, often not far from settlements, up to an altitude of 2000 meters. Presumably she lives on insects. The voice consists of a series of nine to 18 deep hissing sounds.

The Wallace scops owl inhabits the islands of Sumbawa and Flores , where it is not uncommon in places.
