history

In 1653, Matthiae Wallenstein was found to be a tribe in Rüdesheim . Franziskus Wallenstein, who died in 1742, moved to Eibingen, where he acquired vineyards and the family farm. At that time Eibingen consisted of a few individual courtyards, which formed the old town center around the small church “St. Johannes Baptist ” . This historic town center is today (2010) in the area of Eibinger Oberstrasse and Angerstrasse. During renovation work in the vaulted barrel wine cellar, the old cellars that were filled in were discovered on which the building that is preserved today stands. One can therefore assume that viticulture was practiced here very early on . The mayor Philippus Wallenstein, who was in office from 1874 to 1898, contributed significantly to the appearance of the current building. Antonius Wallenstein, the last male bearer of the name who lived in the Wallensteiner Hof, died in 1975. Today only the buildings bear this name.

The ensemble consists of the historic northern residential building, under which there are several cellars, the press house , which acts as an intermediate building, and the south wing, which was also built for residential purposes. The partially historical building complex has a courtyard character, especially through the gate system as the entrance to the courtyard complex.

Surroundings

The courtyard can also be referred to as Hofreite , as it is located in a closed construction, which is usually also called that in Hesse. Surrounding neighboring buildings:

  • Old Eibinger School (Angerstrasse No. 9)
  • Gasthof Krancher (Eibinger Oberstrasse No. 2)
  • Böhner winery (Eibinger Oberstrasse No. 3)
  • On the parking lane in front of the house at Angerstrasse No. 10 was the old rectory, which housed a butcher's shop before the demolition.
