The church

The Sanctuary of the Moglietti (in Piedmontese Muijeit ) is a place of worship in the town of Coggiola , which the Merciful Madonna is dedicated. It is isolated in the woods northeast of the main town near the border with the municipality of Pray and less than a kilometer from the town hall of Caprile .

history

The place was once a swampy area, hence the name muijeit, which has exactly this meaning in Piedmontese. The locality is also called della battaglia (the battle) because, according to local tradition, an armed conflict took place here, in which the inhabitants of Coggliola defeated the supporters of Fra Dolcino .

The pilgrimage site was established in 1888 when a previous small votive chapel from the 18th century was expanded.

description

The pilgrimage site currently consists of a small church with an apse , portico , bell tower and a small hermitage . The old votive pillar with the image of the Madonna holding the Christ Child in her arms was the origin of the pilgrimage site and is still incorporated into the church today. In front of the pilgrimage site there is a Bielle-style fountain with various ladles attached to the stone pillar with chains, from which the water flows.

Numerous votive offerings are shown in the church, given by the local residents in exchange for evidence of grace that they have received. Every year on July 2nd the festival of the pilgrimage site is celebrated.

hike

The pilgrimage site of the Moglietti, which is 630 m above sea level, can be reached from the nearby district of Fervazzo on an unpaved road. It is also one of the places of worship on the CoEUR hiking and pilgrimage routes and on the San Carlo path . A little away from the pilgrimage site is the Rifugio Moglietti refuge.
