The Walter-Engelmann-Bad is a former public bath in Neustadt an der Weinstrasse and is registered as a cultural monument in the city's list of monuments.
history
The bath was built between 1898 and 1899 by the architect Karl Fischer on the site of the old community hospital. The namesake was Walter Engelmann. At that time it was the first and, for a long time, the only indoor swimming pool in the Palatinate, and later one of the first outpatient surgery centers in Germany.
In 1992/1993 Vitalitas acquired the now disused Walter Engelmann Volksbad from the city of Neustadt and converted it into a health center in coordination with the city and in close coordination with the monument authorities. The new address of the health center was created in honor of the founder of the Volksbad: Walter-Engelmann-Platz 1.
architecture
The former bathing establishment is a T-shaped building complex in the neo-renaissance style with a single-storey swimming pool and a lifeguard's apartment, which was added in 1905/1906. An extension was added to the Talstrasse in 1911.
