Walter Downing

Walter Downing (* in Chicago ) is a retired American basketball player .

Life

Downing was born in Chicago and grew up in Joliet . Until 1981, the 2.06 meter tall indoor player played for the team of the Providence Catholic High School in New Lenox . He was in the State of Illinois as "Mr. Basketball, ”began studying at DePaul University in 1981 and played for the college's basketball team. In 1983 he moved to Marquette University  in the state of Wisconsin within the NCAA , had to sit out due to the transfer regulations in the 1983/84 game year and then played 53 games for Marquette's team from 1984 to 1986, in which he received an average of 7.5 points and 3, Recorded 5 rebounds and 1.9 blocks. In the Draft process of  the NBA  , the Los Angeles Lakers secured the rights to Downing in 1986 in the sixth selection round, who ultimately never played in the NBA.

As a professional basketball player, Downing was initially in the service of the Dutch club Tonego 65 Haaksbergen in 1986/87, then strengthened SSV Goldstar Hagen in the basketball league from 1987 to 1989 . This was followed by positions in Brazil , Argentina and Singapore before he ended his career in 1990, returned to the United States and worked as an English teacher at Hinsdale South High School in a suburb of Chicago.
