Walter Fleischmann-Bisten

Walter Fleischmann-Bisten (born July 12, 1950 in Nuremberg ) is a German Protestant theologian.

Fleischmann-Bisten studied Protestant theology and history in Erlangen, Zurich and Munich . From 1973 to 1976 he was a research assistant at the Church University of Berlin and from 1977 to 1984 pastor of the Evangelical Church in Berlin-Brandenburg at the Ananiaskirche in Berlin-Neukölln . At the University of Kiel , he was in 1987 due to one of Gottfried Maron supervised dissertation Dr. theol. PhD. In 1984 he was elected general secretary of the Evangelical Union and from 1984 to 2007 he was the director of the denominational institute . In 1997 he also took over the free church department of the institute. From 2007 to 2015 he was head of the institute. In February 2015 he gave up the office of General Secretary of the Evangelical Union.

Fleischmann-Bisten is the author of numerous books and essays on topics of denominational studies and contemporary church history. He is also the editor of the book series Church - Denomination - Religion and The Churches of the Present .

In October 2017, Fleischmann-Bisten was awarded the Austrian Cross of Honor for Science and Art, First Class.
