Gottfried Marron

Gottfried Maron (born March 5, 1928 in Osterwieck ; † January 27, 2010 in Nuremberg ) was a German Evangelical Lutheran theologian ( church historian ) and university professor.

Maron studied 1948-1955 Protestant Theology at the University of Göttingen and in 1956 due to one of Ernst Wolf supervised work on Kaspar Schwenckfeld to Dr. theol. PhD. He then worked as a consultant in the denominational institute of the Evangelical Federation in Bensheim. One of his tasks was the evangelical reporting on the Second Vatican Council . In 1964 he became assistant to Walther von Loewenich at the University of Erlangen-Nürnberg and qualified as a professor in 1968 in the field of church history. 1973 Maron was appointed to the chair for modern church history at the church college in Berlin . In 1976 he moved to the theological faculty of Kiel University , where he taught until his retirement in 1993.

From 1979 to 1997 Maron was President of the Evangelical Union . He was particularly committed to ensuring that the federal government adopted a new model for its 100th anniversary in 1986 with the motto “Evangelical and Ecumenical”. He was also a member of the Joachim Jungius Society of Sciences and a board member of the Luther Society .

His students include Harry Oelke, professor at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich , Jörg Haustein , former professor at the University of Bonn , and Walter Fleischmann-Bisten .
