Walter Gehlen

Walter Gehlen (* 20th century ) is a German canoeist and world champion.

He came from Grevenbroich , in whose sports club he operated the canoe slalom sport with his partner Friedrich Bohry so successfully that both soon belonged to the national team of the German Canoe Association . At the German Canoe Championships in 1963, they achieved 2nd place in the two-man Canadier (C2).

In 1965 both took part in the World Championships in Spittal an der Drau , where they won a bronze medal. At the white water World Cup in 1967 he was the German national team in the two-man canoe world champion, for which he was awarded the silver laurel leaf on May 10, 1968.

At the white water world championships in 1969 he competed in a single canoe and also won the team world championship title in this discipline.

Finally, in 1973 , he was once again world champion in the whitewater race in the single canoe with the German team ( Bernd Heinemann , Gehlen and Sepp Schumacher ).
