Walter Hafner (table tennis player)

Walter Hafner (* around 1940) is a German table tennis player who had his prime around 1960. He took part in a world championship and became German team champion with Borussia Düsseldorf .

Hafner played as a youth for the SSV Freiburg club . In 1959 he was nominated for the individual competitions of the world championship. He was eliminated in the first round against Vladimir Popov (Bulgaria). The doubles with Klaus Maier won over Harry O'Prey / Thomas Caffrey (Ireland) and then lost to the Portuguese Alberto Lo / Antonio Osorio. Hafner did not appear in mixed.

Around 1960 he moved to Borussia Düsseldorf . Here he was involved in winning the German team championship in the 1960/61 season. In 1961 he was West German champion in doubles with Horst Terbeck .

Today (2013) Hafner is a member of the Board of Directors of Borussia Düsseldorf.
