Walter Hamel (engineer)

Walter Hamel (born May 10, 1923 in Coburg ; † July 31, 2009 ) was a German mechanical engineer.

Career

Hamel studied at the University of Munich and graduated in 1951. In 1957 he received his doctorate in mechanical engineering from the Technical University of Hanover .

From May 1, 1971 to April 30, 1981 he was the first managing director of GSB Sonderabfall-Entsorgung Bayern GmbH. It is largely due to him that Bavaria was the first German federal state to implement procedures for the safe and environmentally friendly disposal of industrial waste.

The University of Stuttgart appointed him honorary professor for process engineering in the treatment of waste materials.
