Walter II (Vexin)

Walter II the White (French: Gautier le Blanc ; † after 1017) was a count of Vexin , Amiens , Valois , Mantes and probably also of Gâtinais in the 9th and 10th centuries. He was a son of Count Walter I († after 991).

He was married to a lady Adela, whose origin is unclear. Your children were:

• Drogo († 1035), Count of Vexin, Amiens and Mantes
• Rudolf III. († 1060), Count of Valois
• Fulko, Bishop of Amiens
• NN daughter, ∞ with Count Hugo I. von Meulan
• ? Walter I., Lord of Guise

Based on a letter from Abbot Abbo of Saint-Benoît-de-Fleury to Pope Gregory V from the year 997, the French genealogists Christian Settipani and Eduard de Saint-Phalle put forward the thesis that Walter also officiated as Count of Gâtinais after 991 . The letter mentions Q [u] auz [fridus], nepos des Wal [terius] comitis de castro Nantonis, ... who can be identified with Gottfried and his uncle Walter II von Vexin and. Accordingly, after the death of his brother, Count Gottfried I († after 991), Walter ousted his first nephew Gottfried and took over the reign of his second nephew, Aubry , who was still underage .
