Walter Kempner (physician, 1903)

Walter Kempner (born January 25, 1903 in Berlin , Germany , † September 27, 1997 in Durham (North Carolina) , North Carolina , USA ) was a German physician.

Life

Kempner was born as the youngest son of the physician Walter Kemper and the microbiologist Lydia Rabinowitsch-Kempner . His brother was the lawyer Robert Kempner . His sister Nadja Kempner died of tuberculosis in 1932 . In 1934 Kempner emigrated to the USA. Walter Kempner is considered to be the inventor of the rice diet , which he developed at Duke University in 1939.
