Walter Perron (lawyer)

Walter Perron (* 1956 in Worms ) is a German lawyer and professor at the Albert Ludwigs University of Freiburg .

Life

Perron studied law between 1975 and 1981 at the University of Mannheim and the Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg . He passed his second state examination in 1983 in Stuttgart. With the help of a doctoral scholarship from the Max Planck Institute , where he previously worked as a research assistant, he was able to complete his doctoral thesis in Freiburg with Albin Eser in December 1986 . For this purpose he had research stays in Madrid , Valencia , and Saragossa . Another research stay followed at the University of Michigan Law School, Ann Arbor . In 1993 he also completed his habilitation in Freiburg.

Perron then accepted a call from the University of Konstanz , and in 1995 moved to the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz . Since 2003 he has held the chair for criminal law, criminal procedure law and comparative criminal law at the University of Freiburg. From 2006 to 2008 he was dean of the law faculty. Since 2008 he has been director of the Institute for Criminal Law and Criminal Procedure Law, Section 3 (German and Foreign Criminal Law and Criminal Procedure Law).

Perron is the recipient of the Otto Hahn Medal of the Max Planck Society and, among other things, a member of the ethics committee of the University of Freiburg and an advisory board of the Anuario de Justicia de Menores.
