Walter Zoller (pianist)

Walter Zoller (* 1972 in Basel ) is a Swiss pianist .

He studied piano with Jean-Jacques Dünki and Adrian Oetiker at the Musikhochschule Basel, passed his concert diploma with distinction and completed his studies in the master class of Bruno Canino at the Musikhochschule Bern .

Even as a student, Walter Zoller received numerous sponsorship awards and grants from various Swiss cultural foundations. With the Mondrian Ensemble Basel he won 3rd prize at the Swiss Migros Chamber Music Competition, came 2nd at the “Concours International Illzach” and received the “10th Swiss Ambassador's Award”.

Walter Zoller performs a concert activity as a soloist, chamber musician and song accompanist, which has taken him to many European countries. In 1998 he made his debut as a soloist with the Basel Symphony Orchestra in the Stadtcasino Basel, in 2003 with the Mondrian Ensemble in the Tonhalle Zurich and in 2005 at the Lucerne Festival. He has been invited to numerous other festivals - Weimar, Davos, Zurich, Bantry (Ireland), Krakow, East Sussex (England) - and to a concert in the Wigmore Hall in London.

A CD with works by Beethoven and Schubert, a CD production for “Musikszene Schweiz - Grammont Portrait” and several radio recordings complement his activities.

Walter Zoller has lived in Leipzig since 2004 , works as a pianist and répétiteur at the Gewandhaus , makes music in various chamber music formations with members of the Gewandhaus Orchestra, and performs regularly as a soloist and accompanist in Gewandhaus concerts. 2007–2009 he had a teaching position for accompaniment at the University of Music and Theater "Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy" in Leipzig.

In 2010 he got a permanent position at the Gewandhaus as pianist and répétiteur of the GewandhausChöre.

In 2012 he can be seen in the documentary soap Advent in XXL . The recordings are about the Gewandhaus children's choir rehearsing for an (Advent) concert.
