Wang Yani

Wang Ya-ni (Chinese: 王亚妮; born May 2, 1975 in Gongcheng am Li) is a Chinese painter.

Life

She was born as the eldest child of the painter Wang Shiqiang and discovered by him as a child prodigy when she was painting monkeys in the zoo. At the age of six she was allowed to exhibit in Beijing and a postage stamp from the Chinese Post appeared with a monkey and child she had painted.

Later she showed her works in Asian countries and the Institute for Foreign Relations arranged her first exhibitions in Germany, followed by the Museum of National History in London, and then a year later the Smithsonian Institution in the United States shows her works in the Sackler's Gallery in Washington come the Asian Art Museum in San Francisco and the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City. Several books were written about her even then.

In 1993 she graduated from high school and then learned German for three semesters at the Goethe Institute in Beijing, before being able to come to Bavaria to study at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich in 1996 thanks to an annual scholarship from the Rotary Club .

Although she has changed her style, her basic motifs still come from the Chinese tradition: they are plants, especially bamboo and lotus.

Wang Yani has three children with her husband, the artist and teacher Wu Min-an.
