Wanjiaba tombs

The Wanjiaba tombs ( Chinese  万 家坝 墓葬 , Pinyin Wànjiābà mùzàng ) in Chuxiong in Yunnan in southwest China are famous for the bronzes discovered there . The site is dated to around the 5th century BC. Dated.

The graves are located on the west bank of the Qinglong He River in the village of Wanjiaba (万家 der) of the Lucheng (鹿 城镇) municipality of Chuxiong and were excavated by the Yunnan Provincial Museum from 1975 onwards. Six bells of a Yangjiao carillon (yángjiǎo biānzhōng 羊角 编钟) and an important collection of five so-called bronze drums (tó) - more precisely a kettle gong - were discovered, which are now in the Yunnan Provincial Museum and are among the oldest in Asia. They are dated to approx. 2300 before today using the C14 method .

The findings revived the discussion between Chinese and Vietnamese scholars about the origin of the kettle gong (the so-called "bronze drums").
