The coat of arms of the city of Oberglogau (Głogówek) shows several grapevines and winegrower's knives on a red background . It goes back to an old seal of the city from the early 14th century. It points to the traditional character and importance of viticulture in the Oberglogau area.
description
On a red background there are alternating three golden vines and three winemaker's knives with golden handles and silver blades. The figures are arranged in a star shape in the middle of the shield. The vines are arranged towards the angles.
history
Since the 14th century, the seals of Oberglogau have shown three winegrower's knives colliding in the middle. The blades pointed to the angles. The oldest known seal is on a document of the Czarnowanz (Czarnowąsy) monastery from 1312. In 1640 the vines appeared for the first time in the town's seal. These took the place of the winemaker's knives, while the winemaker's knives were placed between the vines.
The coat of arms in architecture
The coat of arms of Oberglogau was also attached to some building facades as an ornament. At the town hall it adorns the facade of the Renaissance gable on the south side and on the castle gate it is attached to one side above the passage. It also adorns the facade of a townhouse made of bricks on the Ring. At the castle gate and the brick building on the Ring, the vines are green and the winegrower's knives are brown.
