history

The coat of arms of the city of Dorfen was created in the second third of the 14th century. It is probably based on the privileges of 1331, as well as a larger and a smaller seal, of which impressions have been passed down since 1374 and 1394, respectively. Already in these seals there are three houses as the heraldic symbol for the village.

The coloring is so far only unexplained. In the 16th century, the houses and shields were given silver and the roofs red. In contrast, blue for the shield is attested in literature since 1812 and also in the mayor's medal around 1820. The current pricing comes from Otto Hupp.

The coat of arms of Dorfen is already contained in the large coat of arms collection of Philipp Apian (1558/1589) and on the large coat of arms that the court painter Hans Mielich (1516–1573) placed in front of the penitential psalms of Orlando di Lasso in 1565.

The current design of the coat of arms comes from the heraldist Max Reinhart and is based on the design by Otto Hupp .
