history

The place Wartenberg, which was presumably raised to the market as early as 1310, has had its own seal according to seal announcements since around 1470, of which, however, no prints have survived. An impression of the seal has survived for the first time from 1514. The picture shows the dragon in the notched semicircular shield. It is undoubtedly derived from the dragon relief in the Romanesque tympanum of the St. Nicholas Chapel. The color scheme that is still valid today is first found by Hans Mielich in 1565. In the 17th and 18th centuries, the original design was abandoned when the dragon was transformed into a basilisk with a crowned cock's head and bat wings standing on a green three-hill. Finally, an ordinary rooster appeared in the official seals.

The current design of the coat of arms comes from the Munich heraldist Emil Werz .
