Coat of arms and flag of Bremerhaven
The flag of the city of Bremerhaven shows the city's coat of arms on a red-white-red tricolor .
Blazon
The coat of arms shows in silver, over a wavy blue shield base with a silver fish, a Hanseatic ship with a blue roof on the aft fort. On the sails three coats of arms: 1 in red a silver key, above in silver a red paw cross, 2 in blue a golden anchor, 3 in red two crossed silver scythe leaves.
The city of Bremerhaven acquired this coat of arms after the city of Wesermünde was incorporated into the federal state of Bremen and renamed Bremerhaven in 1947. It was officially adopted on May 28, 1947; the design comes from the artist Waldemar Mallek from Münster. Ship and fish indicate the importance of Bremerhaven as a port and fishing location. The coats of arms on the sails symbolize the three former cities of Bremerhaven ( Bremen key and paw cross ), Geestemünde (anchor) and Lehe (scythe leaves).
