War on Want (German war against need ) is an organization for free welfare , whose goal is the eradication of poverty . To this end, War on Want shows governments and international institutions what the poverty-stricken regions of the world need. In addition, War on Want tries to sensitize the public to the problems of developing countries and to support organizations working in them.

The slogan of War on Want is poverty is political (“Poverty is political (justified)”). Accordingly, War on Want looks at the causes of poverty and does not just focus on its consequences. According to War on Want , people should be enabled to solve their problems themselves.

The organization is based in London . The number of employees is currently 20. War on Want was founded in February 1951, the basis of the foundation was a letter from the humanist Victor Gollancz , in which he called for an end to militarism and poverty in the world.
