from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Warehouse ( english Warehouse ) in Chicago , USA was a club and is considered the birthplace of the House -music.

The warehouse was opened in March 1977 by Robert Williams. It was musically directed by DJ Frankie Knuckles . A wide range of different styles was played - but above all R'n'B and disco . Knuckles experimented with different ways of alienating the original productions and mixed disco music with European electronic music. The warehouse was located at 206 South Jefferson Street in Chicago.

When the warehouse doubled the price of admission in 1982, Knuckles was very outraged and left the club. The warehouse was renamed "Music Box" and Ron Hardy was booked as a resident DJ. In 1987 the "Music Box" closed. After that, offices were housed in the building.
