from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Warranawonkong were the main group of Esopus - Indians . Their wigwams were in Wildwyck, now Kingston in Ulster County ( New York ). They operated at the mouth of Rondout Creek. The tribe was divided into clans or families, each with a boss. The names of some of these families have survived as the Amogarickakan, Kettsypowy, Mahon, and Katatawis families. The last of the Esopus died near Kingston in 1830.
