Warwick Road is a northbound inner-city street in the Earl's Court district in the Royal Borough of Kensington & Chelsea in London. The road was laid out from 1822 and was gradually widened southward to Old Brompton Road in the following decades. Today it is part of an important south-north connection in West London.

Among the buildings on the sides of the street are the Arup Associates- designed Warwick Road Estate, Warren House , the west entrance to Earl's Court Station, and the apartment blocks that were built in place of the old Earls Court Exhibition Center .

location

Warwick Road is a one-way street heading north and is located between the junction of Kensington High Street and Holland Road to the north and the junction of Old Brompton Road and Finborough Road to the south. It is crossed by Cromwell Road , which is called West Cromwell Road to the west, and a series of side streets end on the east side. Both ends of the crescent-shaped Philbeach Gardens end on the west side of Warwick Road.

The Survey of London describes the character of Warwick Road as part of the A3220 as "largely determined by its role as a main thoroughfare".

Warwick Road was built as Moiety Road from around 1822 and gradually extended southward to Old Brompton Road in the following decades.

Notable structures along the street include the Warwick Road Estate on Broadwood Terrace, Chesterton Square and associated buildings, which are on the east side of the street and are divided into and through Pembroke Road into north and south blocks a footbridge to be connected. The complex was built by Mowlem from 1972 to 1975 based on a design by Arup Associates . Plans for renovation or demolition have triggered calls for protection as a Listed Building ; instead, a Certificate of Immunity was issued in July 2015, confirming that there were no plans to place the building complex under protection until July 1, 2020 .

Across the north block of Warwick Road Estate, on the corner of Beckford Close, is the postmodern Warren House .

Near the south end of Warwick Road was the main entrance to the Earls Court Exhibition Center , built between 1935 and 1937 , but demolished in 2017 to be replaced with apartment buildings and shops. Opposite is the Grade II-listed extension of Earl's Court Underground Station , a brick and glass rotunda with a circular atrium added in the 1970s that Historic England described as "worthless".

crime

In October 2017, an LGBT activist was stabbed to death at his home on Shaftesbury Place . His neighbor, a former Uruguayan diplomat, later admitted killing him because of long-standing disagreements and pleaded guilty to manslaughter while he was not entirely sane.
