Wash house (Msida)
The wash house ( Maltese L-Għajn tal-Ħassellin , English Wash-house ) is a culturally and historically significant building in Msida , Malta on the Triq il-Wied tal-Imsida . It is listed under number 18 in the National Inventory of Cultural Property of the Maltese Islands .
The building consists of a loggia , the arches of which are listed over a former spring on which the washerwomen worked.
Since the 16th century there has been a washing area at one of the few natural springs in Malta . On the instructions of the Bailli of the Order of Malta, Wolfgang von Guttenberg , a loggia was built over this spring in 1705. It stands at the exit of the Birkirkara Valley .
Although a road has been built across the watercourse, the area is still exposed to flooding during heavy rainfall.
