Berghofen water tank

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The structure was demolished in April 2015

The Berghofen water tank was designed as an elevated tank in the Berghofen district of Dortmund . The structure was located in the immediate vicinity of the southern tunnel portal of the Berghofen tunnel , through which the federal highway 236 crosses the Berghofen district. With a capacity of approx. 9000 m³, it supplied Berghofen and the surrounding area with drinking water for over 100 years, from 1899 to 2004. As the building became more and more in need of renovation with advancing age, the operator gave it up. Demolition work began in the first quarter of 2015. It was Dortmund's oldest elevated water tank. The tank will not be replaced by a new building at this point. The further supply of the area with drinking water is ensured by merging several tanks with a total capacity of 78,000 m³.
