location
To the east of Stotternheim and seven kilometers north of the city-walled city of Erfurt, the moated castle was located in the Gera floodplain near the village. The flat terrain required a low castle surrounded by moats .
history
In 1088, Lords of Stotternheim were mentioned several times as Hersfeld Ministerials , including in 1182. In 1269 the castle was conquered by Erfurt fighters because the inmates turned out to be robber barons. The castle and property now belonged to the city of Erfurt, which at that time was able to significantly expand its city territory. In the 14th century the castle was abandoned and gradually dismantled so that there are no more remains of it.
The Stotternheim family became Erfurters and provided personalities in public life, such as the Waidjunker , who became the richest citizen of the city in his time.
