The Stuckenborstel watermill

The watermill Stuckenborstel is located in the to Sottrum belonging district Stuckenborstel , in the district of Rotenburg (Wümme) in Lower Saxony , on the banks of the river Wieste . The first mill on this site was built in 1631. Until 1790 it was part of the former nobleman Gute Stuckenborstel , whose manor house has been preserved to this day and is located in the immediate vicinity of the mill. The current water mill was built in 1790.

history

The water mill has an undershot water wheel , in which the water flows under the wheel and thus drives it. In addition to the mill, this wheel could also be used to drive an attached sawmill. However, this sawmill was demolished in 1920. In order to become independent of the water level in the Wieste, a steam engine was installed in the mill in 1866 . With the electrification of the village of Stuckenborstel, the mill could be operated electrically from 1920. In 1950 the mill was finally stopped. The municipality of Sottrum has owned the mill since 1989.

restoration

The renovation was carried out by the municipality of Sottrum. In 1987 the mill received a new steel water wheel. This has a diameter of 5.30 meters and a width of 1.30 meters and has 48 blades. The transmission has gears, some of which are made of wood. The renovation of the building was completed in 1994, today the mill is fully functional again and can also be viewed inside by appointment. On May 23, 1994, it was re-inaugurated after the restoration and handed over to the sponsorship group Wassermühle Stuckenborstel as part of the Sottrum Heimatverein. The Stuckenborstel watermill is part of the Lower Saxony long- distance cycle route mill route of the Rotenburg (Wümme) district and part of the Lower Saxony Mühlenstraße .
